The IMO is the United Nations specialized agency for maritime affairs, working on maritime safety and security and the prevention of environmental pollution caused by ships.

As part of this effort, IMO is currently promoting the global unification of information exchange standards through digitization for the first time in maritime communications.

Future Quest Inc. is developing CoastaLink, a maritime communication platform based on VDES, a new digital information exchange standard established by the IMO and promoted by its member countries, with the aim of “unifying all maritime communications”. The biggest problem of ship accidents is the lack of a common communication standard, which leads to accidents between ships and delays in rescue after accidents.
